Grand opening

How to play

You need the Utopia client and launcher: download both, so you are ready at launch.

Instructions

  1. Download the client and extract it to a folder outside "Program Files", for example a Utopia folder on the Desktop.
  2. Download the launcher, extract UtopiaLauncher.exe from the zip and put it in the client folder.
  3. Always start the game from UtopiaLauncher.exe: it updates the files, then press PLAY. The game asks for administrator rights.
  4. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", choose More info, then Run anyway.

Which chronicle is it?

Interlude - Chronicle 6

Is this an official server?

No. Lineage II belongs to NCSOFT. This is an independent project with no affiliation.

The game does not start, or closes after the iGuard screen

Usually Microsoft Visual C++ is missing or out of date.

  1. Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ x86 from the link below.
  2. Start the game again from UtopiaLauncher.exe.
  3. If it still does not start, try the answers below: blocked files and antivirus.

I double-click UtopiaLauncher.exe or L2.exe and nothing happens

Windows blocked the file because it came from the internet.

  1. Right-click the file, then Properties.
  2. On the General tab tick "Unblock" and press Apply.
  3. Do it for UtopiaLauncher.exe and for L2.exe (in the client’s system_en folder), then start the game again.
The game does not start, or client files disappear

The antivirus (Windows Defender too) or SmartScreen takes the protection’s files for a threat.

  1. Add the client folder to the antivirus exclusions.
  2. If needed, check SmartScreen: Settings, Privacy & security, Windows Security, App & browser control.
  3. Open UtopiaLauncher.exe and press "Verify files": it puts back the protection’s files and Utopia’s own. If others are missing, extract the client again.
Error "Client integrity check failed"

The client cannot verify its licence: usually a Windows proxy is in the way.

  1. Open the Command Prompt as administrator.
  2. Type netsh winhttp reset proxy and press Enter.
  3. Start the game again.
The screen goes black when I press a key (Tab, for instance)

That key opens the Discord or NVIDIA GeForce Experience overlay.

  1. Discord: Settings, Game Overlay. Turn it off or change the key.
  2. NVIDIA GeForce Experience: Settings, General. Turn off the in-game overlay or change the key.
  3. Start the game again.
The game stutters, or odd characters appear after words in chat

Some client files are damaged or out of date.

  1. Open UtopiaLauncher.exe, press "Verify files", wait for it to finish and start the game.
